• Know what you’re looking for, what you are missing in your team or personal knowledge
• Chemistry, make sure you see eye to eye
• Acknowledge your mentor’s capabilities, his expertise, his networking and remember he’s a person like you, he might not deliver on his promise and not jump on live grenade like you do
• Mentors are not for life, set a specific period of time for your mentor’s consultation
• Respect your mentor, although you’ll probably won’t pay him (better you pay), show respect
